What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Myofunctional therapy translates to myo (muscle) function therapy.

  • In this type of therapy, we focus on improving muscles and function in the face, mouth, and tongue. All of these muscles are used in breathing, speaking, chewing, swallowing, and facial expressions for communicating. There can be profound effects on facial growth and development by targeting specific muscles to isolate, engage and retrain. Orofacial myofunctional therapy is for the young and young at heart.

The more you know...

While you may think kids outgrow most of these issues, they tend to become the adults we see that struggle with the same symptoms to a greater degree. Myofunctional therapists play an important role, as they work together with your entire team of medical and dental professionals to help facilitate whole-body health. During therapy, we work on the three main aspects: breathing through the nose, correct tongue posture, and proper swallowing pattern.

At Breathing Essentials Myofunctional Therapy, we want to determine the root cause of the problem and treat it in a holistic manner. Our focus is to have fun with all ages, while promoting a shared goal of improving the quality of life.
